Not every church has a stripper pole. But, then again, the Church of the Little Green Man isn’t like every church. You might say it deconstructs the very idea of what a church is.
The Church of the Little Green Man is a performance art event that has endured for over thirty years. Born in a tiny East Village club in the nineteen eighties, the CLGM has since migrated to a restored historical church in Sullivan County New York.
This is Mike Osterhout’s church. His approach is raw, provocative and gleefully absurd. Some might see his work as blasphemous or offensive, but, for his congregation, it forms a sanctuary. Mike is an artist who thrives on human connections. Through his devotion to his community, he’s created a safe place to transgress in the Catskills.
